PE & Sport in our School

Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School

Our school works in partnership with PE Specialists Sports (UK) in order to provide the very best PE and School Sport for our pupils.

The following pages illustrate the varied PE curriculum delivered in our school…

  • Our PE Coach

    Jack McCune

Mr McCune has worked at Sports (UK)  here at Sacred Heart Primary School since September 2014. He has extensive coaching experience including at degree in sports coaching and specialises in rugby league and football. Mr McCune delivers PE to our pupils on Monday and Thursday afternoons and all day Tuesday, furthermore these include a wide range of extra-curricular sports clubs. In his spare time McCune plays for a high level rugby league club.

Sports (UK) has been providing high quality PE to primary schools for over 16 years, and has been supporting our school both in and out of curriculum since 2013.  Sports (UK) work closely with our school to ensure our PE Lessons are delivered in accordance with each individual class’s PE long term goal in order to meet the requirements of every pupil in school.

  • Long Term Plan & Timetable

Our PE curriculum has been recently revised to meet the requirements of the new National Curriculum.  Our PE Lessons are active and engaging and inspire all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities.

We have adopted the recommended objectives of the National Curriculum and our aim for the end of each key stage is for pupils to know, apply and understand the matters, skills and processes specified in the following Long Term Plans…

  • Lesson Plans

Our School is signed up to the ‘PEplanning website’ where staff can access National Curriculum linked activities.

Our PE Coach creates weekly lesson plans to suit each child in each class.  Below are examples of the lesson plans that our PE Coach has created specifically for our pupils…

    Foundation – Me and Myself

    Year 1 – Hockey

    Year 2 – Football

    Year 3 – Volleyball

    Year 4 – Netball

    Year 5 – Basketball

Year 6 – Dance (Street Dance)

  • Extra Curricular

  • Teacher CPD

All our class teachers attend and support the lessons that our PE Coach delivers.

Some teachers take notes, others record parts of the lessons on their iPad.  After the first few lessons in a Unit of Work, our teachers and PE Coach will team teach sharing knowledge and experiences to give each other, and the pupils, a broader range of Physical Education.

Lesson plans for all lessons taught are available for teachers to use as a guide for further PE lessons.

All our teachers have their own user account on the PE resource website  This website provides teachers with guidance, lesson plans, extra-curricular resources and assessment.

    PE Coach CPD

In each school holiday, our PE Coach spends 2 days training with all the other Sports (UK) Coaches.  The training sessions include CPD training, updates on the PE curriculum and sharing good practice with colleagues and management.

Sports (UK) regularly observe our PE Coach’s lessons to identify strengths and weaknesses to develop in future staff training.  This is also a useful way of providing each school with information of the PE Coach’s progress.
